The MasterCard Foundation Scholarship: Duke university, USA

The MasterCard Foundation Scholars at
Duke University represent the intellect
and energy of the youth of Sub-Saharan
Africa. With a financial commitment of
$13.5 million from The MasterCard
Foundation, Duke will educate seven
classes of five students — a total of 35
students — over the next 10 years.
The Duke University classes of 2016, 2017,
and 2018 include 15 of these outstanding
scholars selected not only for their
academic capabilities, but also for their
desire to become change agents in Africa.
The MasterCard Foundation Scholars
studying at Duke University are from
South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, Mauritius and Zimbabwe.

What the scholarship covers:
  • Travel costs
  • Visa and SEVIS fees
  • Tuition and other fees
  • Housing, food, and living expenses
  • Health insurance

      Admission requirements:

  • High school certificate and transcript
  • SAT/ACT
  • Recommendation letters

Standardized Testing
All candidates for admission must
complete one of the following
standardized testing options: the ACT,
including writing, or the SAT, including
the essay for students who choose to
submit the new SAT. For students who
submit the SAT, two SAT Subject Tests are
strongly recommended. Students who
have taken multiple tests may choose
which scores to send to Duke. For
students who elect to send multiple test
scores Duke will use whichever score is
highest.

Korean Government Scholarship Program (KGSP), Application for 2018/2019

Program Overview

The Korean Government Scholarship Program (KGSP) supports the future global leaders and promotes the international cooperation in education by inviting talented international students to Korea for an opportunity to conduct advanced studies at
higher educational institutions in Korea.


Category and scholarship period: 
  • Bachelor's degree (5 years): Korean language course(up to 1 year) + Bachelor'sdegree course requirements(4 years)
  • Associate degree(3 years): Korean language course(up to 1 year) + Associate degree course requirements(2 years)
  • Master's degree (3 years): 1 year Language Courses + 2 years Degree Courses
  • Doctorate degree (4years): 1 year Language Courses + 3 years Degree Courses
Requirements and qualifications for Bachelor and Associate degree:

① Must be a citizen of the country to which the scholarship is offered, which also applies to the applicants' parents
② Have graduated or will be scheduled to graduate from high school as of March 1st of the invitation year
③ Must possess above 80% (out of 100%)
cumulative grade point average (CGPA) , or must be within the top 20% (out of 100%) in rank in high school.


Requirements and qualifications for masters and doctorate degree:

① The applicant and his/her parents must hold foreign citizenships.
* Applicants with the Korean citizenship are not permitted to apply for this program.
② Applicants must be under 40 years of age of the selection year.
③ Applicants must hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree as of September 1st of the selection year.
* Applicants who have completed an undergraduate program, a master's program, or a doctoral program in Korea are ineligible to apply for the program.
④ The academic achievement of the applicants must meet one of the followings:
- The grade point average (GPA) must be no less than 2.64 on a 4.0 scale, 2.80 on a 4.3 scale, 2.91 on a 4.5 scale; or
- The overall grades must be no less than 80% out of 100%

                    Selection Procedure
[Graduate and Undergraduate Program]
1st Selection: Applicants submit their
applications either to the Korean Embassies around the world or to the partering universities in Korea. The embassies and universities select the successful candidates among the applicants in the 1st round of selection. 
2nd Selection: The applicants of the successful candidates will then be forwarded to NIIED. The NIIED selection
committee selects the successful candidates among those who passed the
1st round.
3rd SelectionAmong the successful candidates who have passed the 2nd round, the applicants of those who applied through the Korean Embassies will be reviewed by universities for admission. Successful candidates must get admission from at least one of the universities.   

Scholarship benefits for bachelor's program:
Airfare: Round-trip economy class ticket
Monthly Allowance: 800,000 KRW per month
Settlement Allowance: 200,000 KRW upon arrival
Language training: Full coverage
Tuition: All admission fees are waived by the host institution (university) The tuition is covered by NIIED and the university.
Medical Insurance: 20,000 KRW per month (limited coverage): 100,000 KRW per month for scholars with TOPIK
Level 5 or 6

Scholarship benefits for graduate program:

Airfare: Round-trip economy class ticket
Monthly Allowance: 900,000 KRW per month
Research Allowance: 210,000 KRW for scholars in the field of humanities and social sciences; 240,000 KRW for scholars in natural and mechanic sciences
Settlement Allowance: 200,000 KRW upon arrivals
Language Training Fee: Full coverage
Tuition: All admission fees are waived by the host institution (university) The tuition is covered by NIIED and the university.
Dissertation Printing Costs: reimbursement of 500,000 ~ 800,000 KRW depending on actual costs
Medical Insurance: 20,000 KRW per month (limited coverage)
Korean Proficiency Grants: 100,000 KRW per month for scholars with TOPIK

Requirements to Retain the Scholarship:

  • Scholarships awarded to students are reviewed at the end of each semester (unless otherwise stated)
  • In order to retain this Scholarship, undergraduate students must meet the following criteria:
     Enrol in a minimum of 3 subjects (mandatory) in Autumn and Spring

     Maintain a WAM of ≥75 at the enstaS semester

     Receive no “Fail” (F or TF) grades
