It is the dream of many students to study in Finland, not only for its quality education but also the availability of many English taught programmes. The introduction of tuition fee in 2017 put most international students in dilemma but not to worry, there are several scholarships available to help students to fund their studies. Citizen of a European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA) member state or Switzerland, are not required to pay tuition fees for degree studies. However, most non-EU/EEA citizens are required to pay tuition fees for an English language bachelor’s or master’s degree programme. Below we have put together list of universities in Finland that offers full tuition fee scholarship/waiver.
1. University of Helsinki
The University of Helsinki (UH) is a university located in Helsinki, Finland. It is the oldest and largest university in Finland with the widest range of disciplines available. Around 36,500 students are currently enrolled in the degree programs of the university spread across 11 faculties and 11 research institutes. University of Helsinki is ranked at 56th in the world by the 2016 Academic Ranking of World Universities. According to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for 2016, the University of Helsinki is ranked at 76th overall in the world.
University of Helsinki Full Scholarship
The University of Helsinki scholarships are intended for excellent students from outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland who want to complete a Master's programme at the University of Helsinki. The full scholarships are divided into two: Fully Funded Grant, which covers full tuition fee + €10,000 (living expenses) and Full Tuition fee Grant, which covers 100% tuition fee.
University of Helsinki charges tuition fees range from €13,000 to €18,000 per academic year.
2. University of Turku
The University of Turku (UTU), located in Turku in southwestern Finland, is the second largest university in the country as measured by student enrollment, after University of Helsinki. It was established in 1920 and also has faculties at Rauma, Pori and Salo.

The University offers a generous scholarship programme for students who are citizens of a country outside the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland and are subject to pay tuition fees. The full scholarship programme covers the entire tuition fee for 2 academic years.
3. Aalto University
Aalto University is a university primarily located in Greater Helsinki, Finland. It was established in 2010 as a merger of three major Finnish universities: the Helsinki University of Technology, the Helsinki School of Economics, and the University of Art and Design Helsinki. The close collaboration between the scientific, business and arts communities is intended to foster multi-disciplinary education and research.
Aalto University Full Scholarship
Aalto University Scholarship programme seeks to recognise talented non-EU/EEA students. Aalto University scholarships are merit-based and are granted on a competitive basis. The number of scholarships per degree programme is limited and depends on the overall number of selected non-EU/EEA students per degree programme. The best applicants of a specific study option liable to tuition fees will be awarded a full tuition fee scholarship.
The tuition fee at Aalto University ranges from €12,000 to €15,000 per academic year depending on the programme.
4. University of Jyväskylä
The University of Jyväskylä, established in 1934 is a university in Jyväskylä, Finland. Around 15,000 students are currently enrolled in the degree programs of the university. It is ranked as the fourth largest university in Finland when measured according to the number of master's degrees conferred.
University of Jyväskylä Full Scholarship
University of Jyväskylä offers scholarships covering the cost of tuition fees for its most successful international Master’s degree students. Scholarships are granted based on the admission criteria of the programme in question. A maximum of 50% of admitted students in each programme may be granted a full tuition fee waiver.
5. University of Tampere
The University of Tampere (UTA) is a public university in Tampere, Finland offering undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes. The university was ranked 201–250 on the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2018.

The University of Tampere tuition fee scholarship covers 100% of the tuition fees in a two-year Master’s degree programme. The University of Tampere global student award for academic excellence scholarships cover 100% of the tuition fees and include a €7,000 annual scholarship to cover the student’s living expenses during the two-year Master’s degree programme.
The tuition fees charged in UTA’s Master’s degree programmes offered in English range between €10,000 and €12,000 per academic year.
6. University of Eastern Finland
The University of Eastern Finland (UEF) is a university in Finland with three campuses in Joensuu, Kuopio, and Savonlinna. It was formed in 2010 by a merger of two previously independent universities, the University of Joensuu and the University of Kuopio. In 2017, UEF was ranked among the leading 301-350 universities in the world by Times Higher Education.
University of Eastern Finland Full Scholarship
The UEF scholarships are available to students who are required to pay tuition fees in Master’s degree programmes offered in English. The scholarships will be available for the most talented fee-paying students. The full scholarship covers 100% tuition fee.
Master's degree programme tuition fees in UEF ranges between €8,000 and €15,000 per year.
7. University of Oulu
The University of Oulu is one of the largest universities in Finland, located in the city of Oulu. It was founded on July 8, 1958. The university has around 16,000 students and 3,000 staff. The university is often ranked as one of the better universities in Finland and in the top-400 worldwide.
University of Oulu Full Scholarship
The University of Oulu International Master’s Scholarship Scheme (IM Scholarship) provides scholarships to academically talented international students studying for a Master’s degree in the University of Oulu two-year International Master’s programmes. The full scholarship will be granted in the form of a tuition fee waiver.
8. Åbo Akademi University
Åbo Akademi University is the only exclusively Swedish language university in Finland. It is located in Turku and is said to have one of the most prestigious business programs in the world. The university has activities not only in Turku, but also in Vaasa, Jakobstad, Helsinki and on Åland. Åbo Akademi was a private institution until 1981, when it was turned into a public institution.

The Full Scholarships offered at Åbo Akademi are in two award categories: the first award covers tuition fee and includes an annual scholarship to cover the student’s living expenses (€6,720). The second award covers only full tuition fee scholarship. The decision to grant a scholarship is based on the academic performance of the student in his/her previous studies, and how well the applicant meets the programme requirements.
9. University of Vassa
The University of Vaasa is a multidisciplinary, business-oriented university in Vaasa, Finland. University of Vaasa is one of the largest business universities in Finland. The university has personnel of around 500 which includes a teaching staff of 180 and 54 professors. Around 5000 students are currently studying in various degree programs at the university.

The University of Vaasa Scholarships are open to students coming outside the EU/EEA area. Scholarships are designed to reward students of any nationality who demonstrate the highest academic excellence and potential. The full scholarship award covers 100% tuition fee.
Vaasa University tuition fees ranges between €10,000 to €12,000 per year.
10. University of Lapand
The University of Lapland is located in the city of Rovaniemi, Finland. It was founded in 1979. The University of Lapland is the most northern university in the European Union.

One-fourth of students admitted and subjected to pay tuition fee will receive a full scholarship covering 100 % of the tuition.
University of Lapland charges a fee of €8,000 per academic year.
11. Tampere University of Technology
Tampere University of Technology (TUT) is Finland's second-largest university in engineering sciences. The university is located in Hervanta, a suburb of Tampere. According to Times Higher Education, TUT ranks 11th in the world, and 4th in Europe, for industry collaboration.

TUT offers a generous scholarship programme for fee-paying students. With the help of the TUT scholarship, students can be granted any of the following full scholarships: TUT is awarding the TUT academic excellence scholarship to up to ten of the most talented applicants. The TUT academic excellence scholarships include a full tuition fee waiver as well as an allowance of €7,000 per academic year to cover living costs. Another of the full scholarships also covers 100% tuition fee and will be awarded to majority of the fee paying students.
Tuition fee at TUT is €10,000 per academic year for Bachelor’s programme and €12,000 per academic year for all Master’s level programmes.
12. Lappeenranta University of Technology
Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT) was established in 1969. The university campus is situated on the shore of lake Saimaa – the 4th biggest lake in Europe. Since 2014 LUT has been ranked among the world’s top 600 universities (Times Higher Education and QS rankings)

Scholarships offered by Lappeenranta University of Technology Scholarship Programme are awards for academic excellence, targeting top students from all counties outside the EU/EEA countries and Switzerland. The two categories of full scholarships cover tuition fee in a 2-year Master's Programme plus living expenses of €5,600 per year and 100% tuition fee waiver.
The LUT Tuition Fee for all the Master's programmes is €10,000 per academic year.
Please note that there are no tuition fees for Doctoral programmes as well as programmes offered in Finnish or Swedish.
