Study in Switzerland: University of Zurich – Overview, Tuition Fee And Entry Requirements.

Switzerland is an facinating place to study. Swiss cities are rated among the best cities in the world in terms of quality of life and a significantly low crime rate. Zurich is one of the cities and perhaps the largest city in Switzerland and the capital of the canton of Zürich. It is located in north-central Switzerland at the northwestern tip of Lake Zürich. Zürich is a hub for railways, roads, and air traffic. Both Zürich Airport and railway station are the largest and busiest in the country.

The University of Zurich (UZH, is located in the city of Zürich. It is the largest university in Switzerland, the university is one of the leading research universities in Europe and offers the widest range of degree programs in Switzerland. It was founded in 1833 from the existing colleges of theology, law, medicine and a new faculty of philosophy. Currently, the university has seven faculties:

  • Veterinary Medicine.

Entry Requirements

International applicants with non-Swiss qualifications must meet both general and national entrance requirements before applying. Depending on the student’s foreign qualifications, applicants may be asked to take the additional Swiss Universities examination.

Proof of German language proficiency is required for international students who wish to apply for bachelor or master’s programmes or the teaching training programme.

Application periods

Application period for master and bachelor’s programmes are 1 December to 30 April for the autumn semester and 1 May to 30 November for the spring semester.

The average tuition fees is 1,400 EUR/year


Cost of studying at Zurich

Tuition fees: £528- £863 per semester.

Study materials: £35-104 per semester.

The application fee is £69 (CHF 100), or £276 (CHF€400) for late applications.

Estimated monthly cost of living

Generally, the cost of living in Switzerland is very high. However, the economy of Switzerland is one of the world’s most stable economies.


The expected minimum cost of living for students at the University of Zurich therefore comes to a total of CHF 2000 per month. But, it depends largely on the lifesyle of a person.

The most common housing choices among international students in Switzerland are:

  • Student halls of residence – between 450 and 800 EUR/month.
