International Master’s Scholarship Scheme 2018-2019 at University of Oulu, Finland.

As of 2016, All public universities and
polytechnics in Finland are tuition free
to both local and international students
to study in Finland. Tuition fee was
introduced in 2017 by the Finnish
government to applicants coming from
Non-EU/EEA, however tuition is still
free for EU/EEA citizen. Due to the introduction of tuition fees for non-EU/EEA citizens, the University of Oulu has assigned a significant amount of money for tuition scholarships for 2018 entry. The University of Oulu International Master's Scholarship Scheme (IM Scholarship) provides scholarships to academically talented international students studying for a Master’s degree in the University of Oulu two-year International Master’s programmes. The scholarships will be granted in the form of a tuition fee waiver. The tuition fee waiver awarded covers either 85% or 100% of the full tuition fee depending on the programme. The University of Oulu is one of the largest universities in Finland, located in the city of Oulu. It was founded on July 8, 1958. The university has around 16,000 students and 3,000 staff. The university is often ranked as one of the better universities in Finland and in the top-400 worldwide.

University of Oulu International Master’s Scholarships are in two different categories:

1. 85% Tuition Fee Scholarship for Oulu Business School Programmes
  • covers 85% of the tuition fee in a 2-year Master’s Programme in Oulu Business School International Master’s Programmes
  • is granted for students who are liable to pay tuition fees and who are admitted in one of the following Oulu Business School International Master’s Programmes:
* Finance
* Financial and Management Accounting
* International Business
* Management
* Marketing
* Economics

2. 100% Tuition Fee Scholarship
  • covers 100% of the tuition fee in a 2-year Master’s Programme in all international master’s programmes except Oulu Business School international master’s programmes
  • is granted for students who are liable to pay tuition fees and who are admitted in a 2- year international master’s programme.
Scholarship Eligibility Requirements
Applicants are eligible to apply for a University of Oulu IM Scholarship 2018-19, if they meet the admissions criteria and are liable to pay the tuition fee. The scholarship application will be processed in the selection procedure only if the applicant meets the admissions criteria.

Admission Requirements

  • Applicable Bachelor's degree OR applicable foreign qualification that gives eligibility to enrol in a higher education institution of corresponding level in the country of origin
  • English language requirements
  • English language proficiency is always tested with all applicants either by any of the following:
    * TOEFL PBT
    580 (with a minimum of 4.5 in the Test of
    Written English, TWE)
    * TOEFL iBT
    92 (with a minimum of 20 in Writing section)
    * IELTS
    6.5 (with a minimum of 5.5 per each section) Academic Module only!
    * Pearson Test of English, PTE
    62 (with a minimum of 52 in Writing section)PTE Academic only!

    Application for International Master’s
    Scholarship 2018-19
    There is no separate application system for the International Master’s Scholarship. Applications for the International Master's scholarship are submitted together with the application for the university admission.

    Selection criteria
    Admissions and scholarships decisions will be taken at the same time. Those students successful in obtaining an International Master’s Scholarship will be notified at the same time as their offer of admission to their International Master’s programme is confirmed. The selection criteria for the University of Oulu IM Scholarship are based on previous academic performance and academic potential.

    In order to retain the scholarship in the following year of study, a student must have completed 55 ECTS by the end of the previous academic year. If a student does
    not achieve this requirement during the first year of studies, they will be liable to pay the full international tuition fee for the second year if they wish to complete their Master’s degree programme. An exception to this rule can be made if a student has been granted approved leave from studies (e.g. due to serious illness).
    Please note that University of Oulu IM
    Scholarships do not cover living expenses.
