Study In Netherlands: University College Maastricht Scholarship For Bachelor's Studies.

University College Maastricht (UCM), Netherlands is offering scholarship to five applicants from non-EU/EEA countries. Applicants who are eligible for the UCM scholarship are highly qualified, low-income students coming from a non-EU/EEA country who do not hold an EU/EEA passport. Scholarship applicants must be accepted to the Liberal Arts & Sciences programme of UCM for the September intake. Please note that current UCM students cannot apply for this scholarship. The UCM scholarship is awarded for the duration of the Bachelor's programme, with a maximum of 36 months.
Scholarship covers tuition fee, visa cost, insurance, living expenses per month and housing.

To apply for this scholarship, applicants must apply to UCM online and upload the following documents in the category ‘Apply for Scholarship’ in MyUM simultaneously with all other required documents.
•    A filled out application form
•    Official documentation of financial situation, such as recent (parental) tax return and/or a copy of last pay check(s).
Scholarship applications received by email will not be taken into consideration.

* Applicants are informed about the scholarship decision around March/April.


Steps on How to Apply for Admission

Step 1
Create an account and select your programme: You can register for a study programme via Studielink. In the online application, you will have to indicate which programme you would like to register for.

Step 2
Upload your documents in MyUM: After you have registered in Studielink, you will receive an email from UM within 24 hours. This email contains your personal student number and a password. You can use this information to access the MyUM portal, the intranet of Maastricht university.

In order to complete your registration, please upload the following documents via MyUM as soon as possible, at least before the application deadline:

  • A recent passport picture
  • A copy of your valid passport or your EU/EEA identity card
  • A copy of your latest grades transcript or diploma
  • Letter of motivation 
All candidates should write a letter in English of 500-800 words, answering questions such as: 
1. Why and what would you like to study at UCM? 
2. What do you expect of a college education? 
3. What are your plans after graduating from UCM?
  • English proficiency, provide either of these:
* an International or European Baccalaureate diploma
* an American High School diploma
* GCE A-level
* VWO diploma with a minimum overall grade of 7 in English
* Zeugnis der Algemeine Hochschulreife with a minimum overall grade of 8 in English.
If you do not meet one of these criteria, you have to provide proof of your English proficiency with either an IELTS, TOEFL or Cambridge test. You have to prepare and register for these tests yourself. Please be informed, these results can be submitted after the application deadline.
* IELTS test: minimum overall score of 6.5
* TOEFL test: internet-based, overall minimum score of 90
* A Cambridge certificate: CPE with a minimum score of C, or CAE with a minimum score of B.
  • A Credit Transfer request
If you have completed courses at a recognised and accredited higher education institution after secondary school, you can apply for these credits to be transferred to UCM.Please make sure to upload all of the required documents, otherwise your application will not be taken into consideration.

If you have not graduated yet, you can upload your official lists of grades. You must, however, have graduated prior to starting your studies at UCM.

Step 3

UM assesses your admissibility: Maastricht University assesses whether your prior education makes you admissible.
There are two possible outcomes:

  • You are admissible or conditionally admissible. You will continue to step 4 of the admissions process
  • You are not admissible. Your application process ends here.

UM will send you an email about the outcome, if necessary with more information about what steps to follow next.

Step 4
Continuation of the admissions procedure: The Board of Admissions will review and assess your application and will decide whether you are invited for an interview.

The admissions interview
The interview focuses on your academic plans and how you intend to accomplish these through an education at UCM. The interview is conducted by one or two UCM staff members in English and lasts approximately 30-45 minutes. In exceptional cases, it might be possible to have an interview by Skype.

After Interview
Within four weeks, the Board of Admissions will decide whether or not to invite you to attend UCM.

Admission deadline: January 5th 2018.
