Study In Finland: Häme university of applied sciences, Application for Bachelor's Degree Programme.

As of 2016, All public universities and polytechnics in Finland are tuition free to both local and international students to study in Finland. Tuition fee was introduced in 2017 by the Finnish government to applicants coming from Non-EU/EEA, however tuition is still free for EU/EEA citizen.
Bachelor's degree program application is currently ongoing at Häme university of applied sciences to students who wish to study in the field of Technology, Communication and Transportation, other courses will be available soon. Häme University of Applied Sciences (HAMK) is a multidisciplinary higher education institution situated centrally in the most populated a​​rea of southern Finland. HAMK offers inspiring higher education and customer-oriented applied research. Häme University of Applied Sciences is authorised by the Government of Finland.

Courses available in the field of Technology, Communication and Transportation are:
  • Electrical and Automation Engineering
  • Construction Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering and Production Technology.

                  Admission criteria

Eligibility
You can apply to a Bachelor’s degree programme at a university of applied sciences when you have completed:
  • the Finnish general upper secondary school syllabus and/or the Matriculation Examination
  • international Baccalaureate, German Reifeprüfung or European Baccalaureate Diploma
  • a Finnish upper secondary vocational qualification (120 credit units) or an equivalent previous vocational qualification with a minimum scope of 80 credit units
  • a Finnish post-secondary or higher vocational level diploma
  • further vocational qualification or specialist vocational qualification or an equivalent previous qualification
  • foreign education that provides eligibility to apply for higher education in the countryy in question.
Student selection
Students are selected using two selection methods:
  • admission on the basis of SAT-test results
  • admission on the basis of the points awarded for entrance examination
50% of students will be admitted on the basis of the entrance examination and 50% on the basis of the SAT-test results. An applicant can participate to the student selection in both ways by taking the SAT test and the entrance exam or by taking only either one of those.

All eligible applicants will be invited to entrance examinations. Participating in the entrance examinations is however not compulsory for applicants with SAT-test results.

The entrance examination will be conducted on 6 April 2018 at HAMK's Visamäki campus in Hämeenlinna. If you have demonstrated your eligibility you will be invited to the entrance examination. Detailed instructions and information on exact places and dates will be given in the invitation letter. The invitations will be sent by e-mail. Please note that the entrance exam is only conducted in HAMK.

HAMK uses SAT-test results as one student selection method in the field of Technology, Communication and Transport (not in the Degree Programme in International Business). SAT-test is an alternative for taking an entrance examination. An applicant applying to the degree programmes in the field of Technology, Communication and Transport can participate to the student selection by taking the SAT test and the entrance exam or by taking only either one of those.

Please notice: SAT-test is not used as a student selection method in the Degree Programme in International Business.

What kind of SAT test score does HAMK require?
HAMK requires you to take the SAT test which includes Reading test, Writing and Language test and Math test. Essay is not required. Please note that SAT Subject Tests are not accepted. Only new SAT scores taken after 1 March 2016 are accepted.

HAMK requires a minimum score of 400 from Evidence-Based Reading and Writing, and 400 from Mathematics.
HAMK must have your SAT score by 13 April 2018.

​Tuition fee for Non-EU/EEA students
Bachelor's degrees:
Tuition fee for academic year 2018/2019 is €8700. The tuition fee must be paid at the time of confirming the study place. The fee must be paid at once and cannot be paid in installments.

There will be no tuition fee for non-EU/EEA students who;
  • have started their studies before 1 August 2017
  • who have accepted the study place in the 2016 joint application and have enrolled as absent
  • study in degree programmes taught in Finnish
  • have an EU Blue Card
  • have a continuous residence permit card in Finland, type A permit
  • have a permanent residence permit card in Finland, type P permit
  • have an EU Family Member's Residence Card in Finland
  • have an EU residence permit for third-country citizens with long-term residence permit card in Finland (Type P-EU)

                   Scholarships

HAMK offers scholarship of 45% of annual tuition fee if student studies have progressed according to the schedule below.
In order to receive the scholarship, you need to complete:
  • 27 ECTS credits in the first academic semester (August – December)
  • 55 ECTS credits in each academic year (August – July)
The scholarship for Bachelor's degree studies will be granted annually after the student has fulfilled the conditions of the scholarship. The scholarship can be granted at the earliest after studying for one semester.

The maximum duration of the scholarships is the estimated studying time: 3.5 years in the Degree Programme in International Business and 4 years in the Bachelor of Engineering degree programmes.
